Best FM is a Malaysian private radio station. It is the first radio station in Malaysia outside of Kuala Lumpur. Best FM started broadcasting in 1988 and has been spreading ever since. It also has the distinction of being the first radio station that a private company operates from Malaysia.
History
It began its radio broadcasting in 1988 primarily as a radio to suit the listening taste of the then Sultan Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, of Johor. Back then, it was called Best104. Best104 started broadcasting in Johor Bahru and then later on moved to Kuala Lumpur. Best FM used to broadcast in both English and Malay. It was one of the most popular bilingual radio station for listeners of Malaysia and Singapore. However, due to fierce competition from other radio stations of that time, it decided to focus on the Malay-speaking listeners. The radio started its first 24 hours full time broadcasting in 1996 when it extended its broadcast area to outside its native Johor state. Best FM changed its name from Best 104 to Best FM in February 2014. Best FM is owned by Astro Radio, the largest radio network company in Malaysia by a alrge margin.
