History of BBC Pashto
It began broadcasting in August 1981 and reaches about 50-60 million Pashto-speaking listeners in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as the Pashtun diaspora worldwide. During the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the BBC expanded its services to the Afghan people by establishing BBC Pashto.Nabi Misdaq, a former Afghan diplomat and journalist who fled to Britain following the 1978 coup, was the inaugural editor of BBC Pashto. Other renowned Pashtun journalists who succeeded him were Amin Saikal, Rahimullah Yusufzai, Abdul Hai Mutmaen, and Dawood Azami.
